Newcomers and visitors often need a certified English translation of a foreign driver licence before an Ontario licence exchange or a related DriveTest step. When this translation is needed

What to check before submitting

Make sure the original is readable and that all licence classes, restriction codes and dates are visible. If your name is spelled differently on a passport or immigration document, send that too so we can match it. We do not decide whether a foreign licence is eligible for exchange, but we make the translation clear for the office reviewing your file.

Do you translate both sides of the licence?

Yes — send both sides. The back often shows restrictions, categories or dates that must appear in the translation.
