ATIO-Certified Translation in Ontario: When Do You Actually Need It?

ATIO-certified translation is a specific, higher-cost service for organizations that explicitly require a translator certified by the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario. It is not the default choice for every official document. In many cases, a regular certified translation is faster and more affordable.

Use Standard Certified Translation

  • IRCC and most immigration files
  • Canadian passport applications
  • Driver's licence for Ontario
  • Many civil documents and general-use submissions

Typical price: from $59 + HST
Typical timing: 1-2 business days

Use ATIO-Certified Translation

  • Ontario Nominee Program and other provincial cases that name ATIO
  • PEO, CPA, NDEB, OCT, PEBC and similar bodies
  • ICES, CES, and other institutions that specifically request a certified translator
  • Quebec driver's licence exchange in cases where ATIO is requested

Typical price: from $109 + HST
Typical timing: 3-5 business days

How to avoid ordering the wrong service

The fastest way is to tell us the exact receiving organization when you upload the file. If the institution explicitly says ATIO, certified translator in Ontario, or equivalent, order the ATIO route. If it does not, a standard certified translation is often the correct option.

How to Order

Upload your documents and state the receiving body in the order notes. We will confirm whether you need ATIO-certified translation or the standard certified option before work begins.
